Engineers building systems for small teams.
We're Understaffed Co., a small firm based in Billings, Montana. Our work sits at the intersection of good software engineering and practical automation — the same tools the big platforms use, applied carefully to the very unglamorous problems of running a small business.
Why we built this.
Small businesses and nonprofits keep telling us the same story: they can't afford the next hire, and the team they have is stretched thin. Meanwhile, the tools to fix half of that pain existed but were locked behind enterprise contracts and jargon. We wanted to bring that toolkit down to Main Street, priced honestly, delivered like real software.
How we work.
We start with a conversation, not a proposal deck. We shadow the parts of your day that hurt, propose one system we could ship in a few weeks, and put a real number on it. If we agree, we build. If we don't, you got a free strategy conversation and we'll point you at someone who fits better.
What we won't do.
We won't sell you an AI toy because it's trendy. We won't lock you into a stack you can't exit. We won't hand-wave "AI transformation" when what you need is a spreadsheet that stops eating your Tuesdays. Small problems, solved seriously.
